Position Summary
The Art Studios is an art-based program of Lookout Housing and Health Society for people living with a mental health diagnosis. Through art and mutual support, participants develop their artistic talents, confidence and life skills. The Art Studios offers a safe environment and the sense of community that is so important for individuals who often struggle with isolation. We are seeking an enthusiastic and artistic individual to join our Art Studios team as Special Events Associate with the Canada Summer Jobs summer 2025 program. As a Special Events Associate, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in event and workshop planning, coordination, and execution as part of our mental health art programming. You will work closely with our experienced Art Studios team of staff and mentors to assist in organizing a variety of special events, including but not limited to workshops, painting drop ins and community outreach initiatives.
This position offers a unique opportunity to develop valuable skills, and make meaningful contributions to our organization's mission. This is a contract position that runs 8 weeks from hire date, and no later than August 31, 2025.
Job Duties
The Special Events Associate will provide assistance, support, direction and other services for a wide variety of Lookout clients. The Special Events Associate will assist with development of supportive relationships in the community, develop service plans, and work closely with staff in regard to organizing and implementing special events for the client/tenants/guests of Lookout.
• Assist in the planning and coordination of special events from conception to execution
• Research and secure event venues, vendors, and other resources
• Coordinate logistics, including event schedules, volunteers, and peer participation
• Assist with event promotion, community outreach and marketing efforts
• Provide on-site support during events, including setup, participant registration, and troubleshooting
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders and partners to ensure the success of each event
• Assist with post-event evaluation and analysis to identify areas for improvement
Qualifications & Requirements
• Currently enrolled as a full-time student in a relevant field (e.g., Event Management, Fine Arts – visual or ceramic, Communications, Community Mental Health etc.)
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
• Experience in art events, art programming, community art events and/or art sales
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, Instagram
• Previous experience in event planning, customer service, or related fields is preferred but not required
• Criminal Record Check Required
• Must be a Canadian Citizen or a Permanent Resident (Canada Jobs requirement)
