Position Summary
Baird Blackstone is offering a dynamic and meaningful summer student opportunity for individuals passionate about social justice, community service, and supporting vulnerable populations. As a harm reduction-focused tenancy program, our mission is to provide compassionate care and connect individuals experiencing homelessness and addiction with essential resources and support services.
This position offers hands-on experience in frontline community work, including case planning, harm reduction strategies, basic wound care, and facilitating therapeutic and recreational activities such as art sessions, bingo, and community cleanups. Students will also be involved in special projects addressing critical issues such as extreme weather response, the opioid crisis, and community outreach.
Through this role, students will gain practical skills and a deeper understanding of the systemic challenges facing marginalized populations. This is an excellent opportunity for those seeking to build a foundation in social work, public health, or community-based services, while making a lasting and positive impact.
Job Duties
The Special Events Associate will provide assistance, support, direction and other services for a wide variety of Lookout clients. The Special Events Associate will assist with development of supportive relationships in the community, develop service plans, and work closely with staff in regard to organizing and implementing special events for the client/tenants/guests of Lookout.
· Assist in the planning and coordination of special events from conception to execution
· Research and secure event venues, vendors, and other resources
· Coordinate logistics, including event schedules, volunteers, and peer participation
· Assist with event promotion, community outreach and marketing efforts
· Provide on-site support during events, including setup, participant registration, and troubleshooting
· Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders and partners to ensure the success of each event
· Assist with post-event evaluation and analysis to identify areas for improvement
Qualifications & Requirements
- Currently enrolled as a full-time student in a relevant field (e.g., Event Management, Fine Arts – visual or ceramic, Communications, Community Mental Health etc.)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in art events, art programming, community art events and/or art sales
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, Instagram
- Previous experience in event planning, customer service, or related fields is preferred but not required
- Criminal Record Check Required
- Must be a Canadian Citizen or a Permanent Resident (Canada Jobs requirement)
