Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Accountant, the Accounting Officer provides support to the Finance team, focusing on the reporting function. Key duties and responsibilities for this role include completing tasks such as reporting financial data of an organization, assisting in preparing the monthly/annual financial statements, auditing and analyzing balance sheet accounts, ensuring compliance with financial reporting and standard accounting procedures, conducting internal financial audits, and reconciling bank statements.

The Accounting Officer works in accordance with the mission, values, principles, and philosophy of Lookout Housing and Health Society, including following Lookout’s Code of Ethics, as well as completing work in a manner that meets Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and practices. The job functions are complex, requiring a high degree of confidentiality and concentrated mental and written attention. Responsible for complying with and contributing to all aspects of health and safety program. 

Job Duties

1.    Reviews contracts and budgets to meet all the legal and contractual requirements, such as insurance compliance and reporting deadlines.
2.    Monitors expenditures against budgets, conducting internal financial reviews to check for compliance with terms, identifies discrepancies, and recommends solutions and options to the Senior Accountant and Director of Finance.
3.    Performs projections, forecasts, and analyses, including providing costing information to operations. 
4.    Prepare monthly recurring transactions.
5.    Prepares and runs a variety of reports.
6.    Works with auditors to design, maintain, and prepare account reconciliation and analytic working papers. Responds to inquiries from auditors and makes required adjustments. 
7.    Develops work procedures and ensures that department standards are maintained, transactions are accurate, and deadlines are met. 
8.    Ensures client rights of privacy and confidentiality are maintained.
9.    Maintains a current knowledge of and complies with all Lookout policies and procedures. 
10.    Support other team members based on RASCI.
11.    Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Finance or the CFO.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education, Training, and Experience 
 
A Diploma in Accounting or Financial Management, plus three (3) years of training in accounting and recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be working towards a CPA.  Must pass criminal record checks, be bondable, and maintain a current Standard First Aid Training Certificate.
